Multiple things Robbin, too detailed to go into fully here, but in brief summary: (a) We address the outflux of students to Charter and Tech by expanding our programming (at no additional cost) at the middle/high school level, offering different subsets of coursework that appeal to these types of students. I was on a panel that brought in parents of charter school students to ask what we would need to do to get them back. Part of that, thanks to my work with then assistant superintendent Jay Cummings, was the Oak and Sherwood Advanced Math curriculum. We need to develop that further. (b) Special Ed costs could be reduced by improving our abilities internally and partnering with outside sources, as we did with the transitional learning facility project we did with Assabet at SHS. It reduces our cost for transportation and tuition of students that were technically "out of district, while providing better services to the children and their families and not having them on a bus an hour a day.

What suggestions do you have to modify the 9 million dollars that go for the special education; charter; and technical school funding? In the old days, kids with disabilities were shipped out to either institutions or put in the back of the classrooms to be ignored. I welcome your response.
