SHREWSBURY – The Leaders of Tomorrow youth group is conducting their third annual adopt a Shrewsbury soldier project next week, pulling together their groups of students from Saint Johns, SHS, Oak Middle School and other local chapters.
Last year, over 300 pounds of goods and supplies were donated by Shrewsbury residents, and shipped to a local soldier in Iraq, who then distributes the items to the members of their unit.
The group has received a generous donation of 100 Christmas Stockings, and will be meeting this weekend to hand decorate each of them to prepare for filling with items needed so badly overseas.
We’re in need of the following items:
Candy, Gum, playing cards, chap stick, small packets of cleaning wipes, refrigerator magnets, used music CD’s. Special requests for Slim Jims, small refrigerator magnets, and most of all letters from Shrewsbury School Children written to the soldiers. They’ve been known to write back with incredible appreciation.
We also need to raise $250 to pay for the shipment of the items to our contact in Iraq, a brave Shrewsbury resident, who will be passing them out to his unit as soon as they arrive.
To donate items, please bring them to one of the following locations. The drop off box in the lobby at Oak Middle School, The drop off box on the porch at 63 Lamplighter Drive. If you’d like to take up a collection from your neighbors, we can certainly arrange to come by and pick up bags of items.
If you’d like to help with the postage, please make out a check to the Leaders of Tomorrow, and send it to Nicole Marshall, Treasurer, 18 Wheelock Road, Shrewsbury, 01545
Time is critical as we want to pack up all the stockings by Sunday, Dec 12th.
Any leftover items that don’t fit into the stockings is heading to The Mustard Seed, one of our favorite local shelters.
Here’s a wonderful certificate that was received last year from one of our brave neighbors along with a flag flown in battle.
