SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Coming into the weekend, all eyes will be set on the Varsity football game between the Shrewsbury High School Colonials and Saint John’s High School Pioneers. But that is not the only football game between the rival schools occurring this holiday weekend. Monday, the freshman football teams of both high schools will be squaring off in their annual contest. Shrewsbury is coming off a dominating win over Fitchburg, led by tailback Mike Abasciano and quarterback Matt Bonollo. “I personally think we should beat Saint John’s, no doubt. I feel comfortable going into this game.” Says Bonollo (pictured), who is the team’s starting quarterback. Meanwhile, the Pioneers are recovering from a tough loss against Wachusett, in which they lost 28 to 7. “It won’t affect me.” Says Shrewsbury High starting linebacker Chris White, regarding Saint John’s record. “Team records don’t mean anything. We have to be ready for whatever they throw at us. I feel like Saint John’s will be a good team, but if we are on our game, we will be unstoppable.” Both teams are rather confident, despite the Pioneers coming in without a win yet on the season. “I feel pretty confident that we can pull off a win this Monday. As long as we concentrate and bring the intensity.” Says Pioneers wide receiver Marc-Eddy Paul. A game between Shrewsbury High and Saint John’s at any level is guaranteed to be entertaining. Be sure to stop by Shrewsbury High at 10:00 AM Monday for what is sure to be a great game.
