KEY 7088 300x199 Shrewsbury Chemistry Club brings the subject home to students Shrewsbury MassachusettsSHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – It was a packed house of middle school students that came on down to the Sherwood Middle School Cafeteria not for lunch, but for a fantastic demonstration.  Members of the Shrewsbury High School Chemistry club, lead by teachers Derric Lowery and Melinda Moynihan have been working all year long to perfect various experiments to try to bring their love of chemistry down to the middle school level.  Today, they set up displays with hands on experiments for over 100 students, who explored the chemical basis of making a lava lamp, or creating their own baggie full of colored slime!  Yes it doesn’t sound appealing but trust me it was fun!  They even made up chalk from scratch, which is an achievement in and of itself.

Kudos to all of the SHS students for giving up a large chunk of their day to try to help groom a batch of budding young scientists.
