Shrewsbury Education Foundation to honor Mark Murray

Mark T Murray 300x200 Shrewsbury Education Foundation to honor Mark Murray Shrewsbury MassachusettsSHREWSBURY, Massachusetts - The Shrewsbury Education Foundation (SEF) has announced that it will host its annual awards dinner on Saturday, January 19th, 2013. This year, SEF will be honoring former Shrewsbury School Committee member Mark T. Murray with its Community Service for Shrewsbury Public Schools Award. The event will be held at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, Mass. at 6:30 PM.

 

The Community Service for Shrewsbury Public Schools Award is presented to a town leader who has gone above and beyond in delivering outstanding service to the community and to the Shrewsbury Public Schools.

 

Mr. Murray served five terms on the School Committee, from 1996 to 2011. He has been a coach for Shrewsbury Youth Soccer, Shrewsbury Youth Hockey and Shrewsbury Little League, an assistant track coach for the SHS track team, in addition to completing ten Boston Marathons. Mark is currently an Associate Publisher of the Worcester Business Journal, to which he brings twenty years of sales and publishing experience. Mr. Murray grew up in Wellesley, graduating Wellesley High School in 1974 and The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester in 1978. Mark and his wife, Cheryl, moved to Shrewsbury in 1989 and are the parents of six children.

 

SEF will also celebrate the recipients of the John P. Collins Awards for Excellence, which are awarded to those who continuously exemplify the high standards of professionalism and a commitment to lifelong learning. Named for former Shrewsbury Superintendent of Schools John P. Collins, PhD, honors will be presented in five categories: Professional Educators, Paraprofessionals, Support Staff, Team Teachers, and Leadership.

 

Tickets to the dinner are $65 each, and are tax-deductible. Ticket purchases support funding for teacher grant programs and awards.

 

Founded in 1992, SEF works to stimulate, strengthen, and support the creation and implementation of innovative educational programs and enrichment activities that benefit students of the Shrewsbury Public School system. Since its inception, SEF has awarded over $250,000 in grants that support programs impacting student learning at every grade level.
