SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Shrewsbury Crossings recent request for holiday stocking donations for home bound seniors was met with great enthusiasm in the community. On Monday, Kelly Marcimo, director of community relations delivered over 100 holiday stockings to Sharon Yager, executive director of Shrewsbury Council on Aging (COA) at the Shrewsbury Senior Center. The COA will distribute the stockings to cheer homebound seniors via the Meals on Wheels program this holiday season.
Donations came from many individuals in town, as well as several businesses and health care providers from surrounding communities also participated. Central One Credit Union donated items for the stockings and reusable shopping bags utilized for distribution. Herbert Candies donated holiday chocolate bars to sweeten the stockings! This was the first annual Stockings for Seniors event hosted by Shrewsbury Crossings. Residents from the assisted living community participated in the event shopping for items to fill the stockings donated by Benchmark Senior Living and some even personally donated stockings. Ms. Marcimo who over saw the effort said “We are absolutely thrilled with the generous response from our community and business partners. The number of stockings was beyond our expectations and we look forward to doing this as our annual holiday giving event. We know this may be the only gift some of the seniors may receive and we are so pleased to be able to bring the spirit of the holiday to them.”
