SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Garry Weiner, Chairperson of the Board of Directors, has announced the appointment of Jeffrey Chin as Executive Director of Big Brother Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest Inc., effective January 14, 2013.
Mr. Chin is a licensed clinical social worker who has been a non-profit administrator for over 18 years. Most recently, he served as Executive Director for Shrewsbury Youth & Family Services, Inc. for eight years; during his tenure, that organization’s scope of services and corresponding operating budget tripled.
Mr. Chin’s capacity and passion to support at-risk youth has been reflected in his work throughout his career: first as a manager within a special education school at Emma Pendleton Bradley Hospital, then as an Assistant Director and then Program Director for a variety of day and residential treatment programs for Wayside Youth & Family Support Network, Inc., based in Framingham, MA. It was during this time at Wayside that Jeff experienced his first formal practice as a mentor, working as a Community Support Program specialist for a service through the Dept. of Mental Health. Mr. Chin’s mentoring experience helped shape his career and his professional outlook – a belief that entire communities prosper and benefit when individuals are supported by caring mentors who help build a bridge to brighter futures.
“We’re most pleased to announce our hire of Jeffrey Chin,” said Mr. Weiner. “This represents the culmination of a transition process that started nearly 12 months ago, and as a result, we believe we’ve found the ideal individual to lead the agency going forward. Jeff combines the unique traits that should serve him and BBBSCM well; he is innovative, entrepreneurial, and passionate about serving at-risk children, adolescents and their families.”
Mr. Chin lives in Shrewsbury where he is active in the community as an elected Town Meeting Member, a member of various Boards and Councils, and is a Past-President of the Shrewsbury Rotary Club. Jeff is also a commissioned US Navy Reserve Officer, serving a unit supporting Navy Central Command/5th Fleet, based in Bahrain.
This executive transition was led by Third Sector New England and Executive Transition Consultant, Nancy Jackson. Third Sector New England is a nonprofit organization providing management and leadership resources to help nonprofits better meet their mission, and deepen their community impact.
