SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – I’m very excited to announce that my comrade in arms Dale Magee has declared that he will be a candidate for re-election to the Shrewsbury School Committee in the election this May. Dale has been a fantastic asset to the community, both through his years of dedication as a local physician, and of course, through his tireless work advocating for the children of Shrewsbury as a member of the Committee.
“A good public education benefits not only the student, but all who live in the town. Every child deserves the opportunity to achieve all that they can and this begins with a good education. I am committed to assuring that all students, especially those who may lack some advantages, can feel that their future is bright because we believe in them.
The district and the community gain from a variety of perspectives on the School Committee. I bring the perspective of someone who places a high value on education but does not have a student in the system at this time. The community depends upon the School Committee to delve into the complexities of the budget and work with the Superintendent. Especially this year, balance is becoming harder to attain. Re-electing me will allow me to continue to benefit the community with my perspective and the experience that I have gained over the past three years.”
In addition to medical practice, he has served as president of the twenty thousand member Massachusetts Medical Society, as Commissioner of Public Health for the City of Worcester and has been active in public health, performance measurement and in committees producing health policy for Massachusetts.
His undergraduate study was at the State University of NY (SUNY) at Buffalo and his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse. He has practiced here since completing his residency at Case Western Reserve in Obstetrics & Gynecology. He later obtained a Masters degree in Health Policy and Performance Measurement from the Dartmouth Institute.
“Today, the school committee is challenged with finding ways to adequately finance our students’ education and to communicate the value of our schools to everyone in our community. I am running because I can bring a reasoned and balanced approach to help improve our schools and our community’s satisfaction with the system.”
