SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Shrewsbury Counseling Services are happy to debut their new program, “Parenting – The toughest job you’ll ever love” beginning this Friday.
“The most common referral I receive, is that of a stressed-out parent looking for help with their child. From grade school children to college graduates, parenting can be a challenge for even the strongest people. The old saying “They don’t come with a manual” has never been more true, especially in this day and age.
Well, we at Shrewsbury Counseling Center are here to help! We are beginning a Parenting Workshop for parents of children of all ages. The instructor, Kristine Gordon-Johnson, MA, is a licensed counselor, author and instructor at Worcester State College. Her course, “Parenting- The Toughest Job You Will Ever Love”, has been formatted into a therapeutic 6-week workshop to give parents the tools and support they need to refine their techniques and parent more effectively.”
Major topics of interest include:
*DISCIPLINE : What is it? * Why is it necessary? * How to apply a positive approach. *COMMUNICATION: Communicating with children across the ages * Tools for opening the door.
*CO-PARENTING : Working as a team with your partner * Co-Parenting after Divorce * The child’s perspective.
*DRUGS & ALCOHOL : When to have the ‘discussion’ * Effects of our culture * Signs a child is using. BULLYING: Teaching respect * Being Involved * When to seek help * Is your kid a bully?
