SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Erin Hughes Canzano, of 6 Holman Heights Circle, has announced her candidacy for re-election to the Shrewsbury School Committee. First elected in 2007, Ms. Canzano currently serves as Chair of the committee, having previously served in that capacity during the 2009-2010 school year.
“In my six years on the committee, I am proud to have been a part of the culture of excellence that pervades the Shrewsbury Public Schools. However, I am very concerned that the loss of opportunity for students due to fiscal realities will have a serious and long-term impact on their futures. If re-elected, I will focus my priorities on advocating strongly for reducing class sizes, for restoring electives at the high school, and for providing technology throughout the district,” said Canzano.
“These measures require appropriate funding, and having experienced six budget seasons, I have a clear understanding of what is needed, and how to effectively participate in the process in a balanced and thoughtful way.”
Ms. Canzano also serves as a Town Meeting Member from Precinct 8, a Sherwood Middle School Building Committee Member, and was extensively involved in the successful campaign to inform and educate the public about the needs for a new Sherwood Middle School. She and her husband, Dana, have resided in Shrewsbury since 1997, and have three children who attend Shrewsbury schools: Annie, 16; James, 14; and Mary Kate, 12.
