SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – It’s that time again! As the days grow shorter and a little cooler we welcome fall and the annual St. Mary Family Festival riding in on its coattails. The tradition of the Family Festival started out as an Oktoberfest in 1977. From that year forward, Oktoberfest was an every other year event hosted by the Parish. It was intended to provide the community with a family friendly way to come together, celebrate the season and have fun. The Family Festival became an annual event in 1999 and has been going strong ever since. The 2013 St. Mary’s Family Festival is Friday September 13th (6 pm to 10 pm Family Fun Night) – Saturday September 14th (Noon to 7:00 pm – followed by the famous “Pub Quiz (Trivia)” from 8 pm to 11 pm) and Sunday September 15th (Noon to 5 pm ending with our $15,000 Cash First Prize Raffle)
As always, the Festival comes to an end on Sunday, but not without a full day of fun and activities. The day kicks off with an Opening Ceremony at noon. For the kids, Sunday is the last day to bounce, joust, compete and have fun in the inflatables. The day comes to a close on a high note, with the much-anticipated Grand Raffle drawing.
The Festival is a way to raise money to defray the educational expenses of the school. It is also a tradition for the school that brings together the Parish families, School Families, Teachers, Staff and the greater community, all with a similar objective – to celebrate and have fun.
