SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – My mother’s generation socialized and formed friendships while sharing a cup of coffee and folding laundry. Things certainly have changed since then and many women struggle to find social outlets. Fortunately for the women of Shrewsbury, and its surrounding communities, there is an organization to help them with that. The Shrewsbury Social Club is for women of all ages, walks of life and backgrounds. The mission of the club is to provide its members with social and community service opportunities. The club hosts several monthly interest groups, including golf, book, recipe, wine tasting, Bunko, and ski. In addition, the club organizes various social outings (dinners, movies, museums, bowling, theatre, shopping, hikes etc.). On the service front, we hold an annual bake sale, collect and donate school supplies and toiletries. Beneficiaries of the clubs fund raising efforts include Shrewsbury Public Library, Worcester County Food Bank, St. Anne’s Human Services, Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services, SELCO’s “Share the Warmth”, Shrewsbury Oil Assistance Relief, Shrewsbury Public Schools, Relay for Life, Dress for Success, and Veteran’s Inc. From 2010-2013, the club has donated more than $7,000 to these local causes. The beautiful thing about our club is that we are a welcoming, group of friends and neighbors committed to having fun and helping our community.
We will hold our annual kick-off dinner on September 18th at Leo’s Ristorante located in Worcester, beginning at 7:00. Women interested in becoming a member are welcome to join us.
