SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – While many have been celebrating with friends and family, this has been such a rough week for other families in the Shrewsbury area that were nowhere near as fortunate. In the wake of the fatal motor vehicle accident by St John’s earlier this week, I’m sorry to have to report a second fatality resulting from Wednesday’s accident near the intersection of 140 and 20. The following information is now available for release from the Shrewsbury Police Department.
On Wednesday, November 27th 2013 at 7:48 p.m. the Shrewsbury Police responded to Rt. 140 in the vicinity of Rt. 20 for a two car motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival Police discovered the two operators of the vehicles were injured and were transported to University of Massachusetts Medical Center. There were no other occupants in either vehicle. Shrewsbury Fire Department and U-Mass EMS assisted at the scene. The operator of a 2006 Ford Focus, Lindsey Demoranville of Grafton, Ma., 22 years old was pronounced dead a short time later at U-Mass Medical Center. The operator of a 2013 Infiniti sedan, Jennifer Lesco of Worcester, Ma., 33 years old was treated for injuries at U-Mass Medical Center.
Preliminary investigation determined that the vehicle operated by Demoranville was traveling South on Rt. 140 and Lesco’s vehicle which was traveling North on Rt. 140 when thay collided. Route 140 was shut down for several hours while Police conducted the investigation. The Massachusetts State Police also assisted at the scene. The accident remains under investigation by Shrewsbury Officer Sean Maynard and Shrewsbury Police Accident Reconstructionist, Sgt. Michael A. O’Connor.
