SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Wellspring United Methodist Church announces a Blue Christmas Service to be held on Saturday December 14 at 7:00PM in Lawrence Hall at the Trinity Episcopal Church at 440 Main Street in Shrewsbury. A free soup and bread meal will be served from 6pm to 7pm for those who hurt at Christmas time and cannot get into the festivities like others seem to be able to do. The service will start at 7pm.
This special worship service will feature prayers, Scriptures and music that acknowledge that God’s presence is for those who mourn, for those who struggle and that God’s Word comes to shine light in our darkness.
Christian churches throughout the world commonly celebrate Christmas with great festivity, joyful music and exuberant worship experiences. For many people this season is not one of joy but truly a painful season in which recent losses seem more intense; those who have endured long periods of unemployment or physical hardship find it hard to find reasons to celebrate. The Blue Christmas service is designed to help people refocus and experience God’s gift to us all in a different way, to help each other find God’s presence even when life itself seems overwhelming.
