SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – When the announcer opens each day with the famous words, “Welcome to Friendly Fenway Park,” it always makes for a good day…yet there are rarely days which will be as friendly, or well intentioned as this one.
On Valentines Day, Feb 14th, Boston will join the ranks of many major cities from coast to coast, and put the “hilarity back in charity,” with it’s inaugural Cupid’s Undie Run, benefitting the Children’s Tumor Foundation. Last year, the group raised over 1.3 Million Dollars, and hopes to far exceed that this year, and hundreds of nearly naked runners, dressed in their best Valentine’s regalia, take to the streets at Fenway Park.
Each city has their own flair, and no doubt each wants to be the one that raises more than any of the others, but seriously, this is Boston!!! Are we, or are we not Boston Strong?? You can start a team, join an existing team, run on your own, or volunteer with me to help out at the event. Corporate sponsors are also needed, for what will ultimately be a fantastic marketing opportunity that will reach far and wide, while of course helping a wonderful cause. However you’re able, let’s step in, step up, and show the rest of the country just how we rally to a cause.
Here is a direct link to the event, where you can learn more, pledge support, sign up as a runner, or volunteer to help.
About the Cause
The Children’s Tumor Foundation is the world’s largest non-government organization dedicated to ending Neurofibromatosis (NF) through research. NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body, causing blindness, deafness, learning disabilities and severe chronic pain. Currently, there is no cure for NF and there are frighteningly few treatment options. The Children’s Tumor Foundation is a Charity Navigator 4-Star charity that prides itself on efficiency, spending 82.4% of its revenue on program expenses and less than 8% on administrative costs.
NF affects roughly 1:3,000 births in the U.S. and is in desperate need of new discovery, which is why 100% of funds raised through Cupid’s Undie Run go directly to the Children’s Tumor Foundation.
The Foundation’s mission is to advance peer-reviewed research to develop treatments and cures for NF; support persons with NF and their families by making thorough and accurate information readily available; to assist in developing clinical centers and best practices to improve access to quality healthcare for those who live with NF; and expand public awareness of NF to improve diagnoses, increase understanding of the challenges that NF presents, and encourage support for NF research.
