SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – To celebrate the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, youth enrolled in Y.O.U., Inc.’s Department of Youth Services Community (DYS) Community Support Program will package and deliver “Healthy Y.O.U.!” afterschool snack packs and related MLK educational materials to Kindergarten and elementary students at five schools in Worcester, Fitchburg and Webster, where the DYS program operates. These schools were chosen based on pressing need, and present an opportunity for Y.O.U., Inc.’s program participants to have a meaningful impact in the lives of these younger students, demonstrating leadership by example.
The project will be conducted over the course of four days, beginning with a half-day program on Monday, January 20th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at our Worcester DYS offices, located at the First Assembly of God Church in Worcester (30 Tyler Prentice Road). Over 45 volunteers are expected at the kick-off celebration, which will include opening remarks by members of the Y.O.U., Inc.’s Diversity Committee, packaging of the Healthy Y.O.U.! snacks, and a brief address by keynote speaker Ernie Floyd of Pride Productions. Deliveries by Y.O.U., Inc. staff and DYS youth to the recipient schools will be made from Tuesday to Thursday, January 21- 23.
