SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Great news for the caffeine addicts here in Shrewsbury. The Price Chopper location on South Street is readying what will be the very first Starbucks location in Shrewsbury.
According to representatives from Price Chopper, they quickly recognized the fantastic location they had, with easy access on and off Route 9, and wanted to make a quick coffee stop available not only to the existing Price Chopper shoppers, but also to those just passing by on their way through town. Looking at multiple different options, they opted to license a franchise from Starbucks, which they will operate with their own internal staff, much as Target has done just up the street in Westboro.
They held a “soft-opening” for the location yesterday, and I was fortunate to be one of their first visitors. Of course that always has pros and cons, as the espresso machine was down for repairs, but fortunately Kyle, the store manager, stepped up and got everything working good as new in no time. I suppose that’s why soft-openings exist, and no doubt by the time they are ready for their official debut next week, all will be perfect.
Ironically, prior to the building of the Price Chopper facility, that corner was the long-standing site for my favorite cup of coffee, LalaJava, now just up the street in Northboro, and as such I’m sure the current management realizes how great a corner that is for those heading off to work in the morning, and in need of a quick coffee fix.
