Mr. Fitzgerald has been a resident of Shrewsbury since 1977, is an experienced business leader and committed resident who has served the Town of Shrewsbury in a number of positions and capacities. He believes that his proven leadership abilities and experience are critical characteristics needed for this position. There are a number of issues facing the community. Chief among them is the need to address the revenue gap that is severely straining our commitment to education, safety and general municipal operations.
Mr. Fitzgerald is currently the owner of First Stop Program Management, a consulting firm, and XN Sports, a start-up web based sports magazine. Prior to these companies, Mr. Fitzgerald had a long career as an executive at Genzyme Corporation.
Mr. Fitzgerald also has a strong history of local involvement and volunteerism. He has been an elected Town Meeting Member since 1985. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Selectmen, has served on the School Building Committee for the past 20 years and is proud of the projects brought to completion during that period including the Floral Street School, Shrewsbury Sr. High School, Oak Middle School and the Sherwood Middle School. The Sherwood MS, completed in 2013, was well ahead of schedule and under budget. Mr. Fitzgerald recently co-chaired the 31 member Shrewsbury Fiscal Study Committee. On a regional basis, Mr. Fitzgerald is the Public Sector Vice-Chair and an Officer in the 495/MetroWest Partnership. Mr. Fitzgerald is a Trustee at WPI, is a member of the Board of Advisors to the WPI School of Business and is a technical advisor to a number of student and faculty projects seeking commercialization.
Mr. Fitzgerald holds a degree in Engineering from WPI. He is married to Jean M. Fitzgerald, Ed.D.
