SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – On Saturday, April 26, 2014, St. Mary’s Parish in Shrewsbury will offer parishioners and those in the town an opportunity to celebrate community while having fun and making a difference. Last year, over 300 people in the community turned out for this event.
This year, there will be two dozen sites with a wide variety of tasks that include painting a room for a family at Friendly House in Worcester, helping at a site for Rebuilding Together: Worcester, doing interior and outside cleanup at Mercy Center, helping out at the Shrewsbury Public Library, sorting items at the thrift shop and food pantry at St. Anne’s Human Services in Shrewsbury and at St. John’s Food Pantry in Worcester, organizing donated goods at Habitat Re-Store, St. Mary’s Refugee Ministry, and Catholic Charities Furniture Storehouse. Sites for those who would like to work outside include Prospect Park, St. Mary Parish Garden, and Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary and outdoor yard work and minor repairs at the homes of some of our housebound parishioners. To register for these activities or to obtain information on these activities as well as over a dozen other ways to get involved, visit the Day of Service page on the St. Mary’s web site atwww.stmarysparish.org/Ministries/Stewardship/DayofService.aspx
The Day of Service will begin with a check-in at 8:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall. Coffee, juice, and donuts will be served. At 9:00, there will be a blessing in the Church, and at 9:15, volunteers will leave for their various projects.
