SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Congratulations to the Shrewsbury National 11-year-old All Stars for winning the Thomas Dunford Memorial District 5, Little League Baseball Tournament last weekend. Shrewsbury capped off the 2014 tournament beating Westboro in Championship game 13-8 to defend Shrewsbury’s Title as District 5 Champions. This is the second year in a row that Shrewsbury has won this title.
Coach Darrin Schmautz recaps the team’s season:
The Shrewsbury National 11 yr old All Star District Team enjoyed a very successful summer season. The goal of the team this summer was to compete at a very high level and win the District 5, 11 year old tournament. The boys accomplished every one of their goals. Overall, the team ended the season undefeated going 4-0 in the Auburn Little League tournament and 9-0 in District 5 tournament in Millbury.
The boys played very consistently all summer with great defense, very effective pitching from a deep staff, and strong hitting thru the lineup. Every player contributed to the summer success, it was always multiple players stepping up and a fighting spirit that drove the team to victory. The final 3 games of the Districts were the pinacle for this team. It all came down to our pitching, execution of the defense and solid hitting each turn at bat. Congrats go out to all of the boys on the Shrewsbury National 11 yr old All Star District Team, their coaches and supportive parents.
