Having a fine Italian restaurant in the center of your town is something that many of us in Shrewsbury take for granted, yet it bears noting that people from all over come to our little part of the world just for a visit to Amici’s. Every meal we’ve had there has been just superb, as is the take out menu. It’s hard to impress a New Jersey guy like me with this “New England Pizza,” but this little eatery has truly delivered the closest thing to NY Pizza found here in Worcester County. Personal favorites of ours have been the Chicken with Broccoli, in a light almost Alfredo-like sauce, as well as the Veal Parmesan and Chicken Caesar salad. Service is always pleasant, and the Red Sox games are always on the plasma TV. You’re started off with a bowl of Extra Version Olive Oil with cloves of fresh garlic in it, and crisp Italian bread right out of the oven.
Those only real downside, is that the prices seem a really steep for Shrewsbury. I stopped by for take-out yesterday, and brought home a veal parm platter for me, and a chicken parm platter for my son. Total for the two was $38.00. Granted, I probably had a pound and a half of veal, but I don’t really need that much. With the penne, it’s probably two meals easily, at which point $9 each wouldn’t be a bad deal, but why not just offer a $9 veal parm platter that’s enough for one?
but overall it remains one of the best italian eateries in the area.
