A truly unusual Shrewsbury story…

SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – This cute photo and story was submitted the other day by a Shrewsbury resident, and even though it’s been a somber week, I thought perhaps I’d pass it along to you all in the hopes that it might bring just a bit of light to us all…

I just wanted to share with you a wonderful experience that I had meeting a celebrity. On December 2, my mom and I took my two girls and a friend to New York City for the day. We ended our night with a horse and buggy ridge through Central Park. The man driving the buggy told us that he thought that they were getting ready to film something on the pond because people were bringing lights and cameras in. We didn’t think much of it but as we were getting ready to leave there was a guy on a truck doing something with lights so we asked him if they were filming anything good. And he said “Yeah, Jim Carrey starring in Mr. Popper’s Penguins” My kids nearly fell to the ground with excitement. I couldn’t have hand picked a better actor for my kids to meet. At this point it is about 9:30 pm and we have a 3 and a half hour drive home. My girls refused to leave. We waited for a while and no Jim Carrey. Finally, we asked one of the crew members if he would be coming anytime soon and he told us probably not for another two hours. My girls stood firm and refused to leave. My mom and I knew the chance of Jim stopping were slim to none. The crew member must have heard us talking and felt bad so he came over and told us that Jim “might” be coming within the next 30 minutes to do a practice run. My girls squealed with delight! He told us we were in the perfect spot to catch a glimpse. We waited about 20 minutes and sure enough we spotted him headed down the hill. Usually I am the shy type but something came over me.  I started yelling, “Jim, Jim, please let us take a photo with you we are huge fans! ” He smiled and then stopped. He said, ” How about one group photo.  He took my camera and gave it to his body guard and told him to take a pic. He put his arms around my mom and I and told the girls to squeeze in front.  My girls are still beaming!  What a great experience for my girls to have with a celebrity to be so pleasant. I was truly touched. It truly made our trip to NYC an unforgettable one! Earlier in the day we were having lunch and we were all sharing our favorite childhood memory and as we were walking back to our car that night my girls both said, “This is my best childhood memory!”
