Combined Greater-Worcester Musicians to Premier Karl Jenkins’ The Peacemakers

Peacemakers Cover.previewSHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – The Peacemakers, a stunning choral composition that combines a diversity of texts from a wide range of languages, religions and authors around the single theme of Peace, will be performed in its entirety for the first time in Massachusetts at 4 pm Sunday, March 30 in Mechanics Hall.

The Peacemakers, by renowned Welsh Composer Karl Jenkins, will feature the combined voices of the Master Singers of Worcester, The Worcester Children’s Chorus, church choirs from Worcester, Shrewsbury, Stow, Northborough, and Acton, and accompanied by the WPI Orchestra and the Mechanics Hall 1864 Hook organ.

“As violence and conflict continue to flare up around the world, Jenkins’ Peacemakers has a poignant relevance that is both timeless and immediate,” said Malcolm Halliday, Artistic Director of Master Singers of Worcester and Minister of Music at First Congregational Church, Shrewsbury. Drawing from texts including those of Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa, Composer Jenkins dedicated the 72 minute composition to the memory of all those who lost their lives during armed conflict: in particular, innocent civilians.

Karl Jenkins is the most performed living composer in the world. His recorded output has resulted in 17 gold and platinum discs. The concert is supported in part by an Alfred Nash Patterson Grant from Choral Arts New England and by the Greater Worcester Community Foundation. Tickets are $25 Adult; $20 Senior/Student.

Tickets may be purchased online from Mechanics Hall at www.mechanicshall.org/tickets/concertdetail/peace03302014.html
