SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Patrick Daniel Lyons, 18, was formally recognized as an Eagle Scout by Shrewsbury Boy Scout Troop 114 during an Eagle Court of Honor ceremony at First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury. Pat is the 110th scout in Troop 114’s ninety-six-year history to achieve Eagle, Scouting’s highest rank.
To become an Eagle Scout, a Life Scout must have earned 21 merit badges throughout his scouting career, served actively in a position of responsibility within the troop, and have planned, developed and given leadership to an Eagle Scout Service Project that benefits a religious institution, a school or the community.
Joining in 2000, Pat’s scouting career began with Shrewsbury Cub Scout Pack 114. He has been a member of Boy Scout Troop 114 since 2005 and held the positions of Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.
Pat’s Eagle Scout Service Project involved the revitalization of the outdoor recreation area at the Senior Center in Shrewsbury, MA. This included the renovation of two bocce ball courts, rebuilding two horseshoe courts, building and installing two benches, making two new score boards, re-staining several benches, and mulching and beautifying the grounds around the Senior Center. Patrick met with site stewards, organized a plan, and mobilized his troop to help develop and execute his plans. Both the Shrewsbury Senior Center and the Special Olympics now benefit from Pat’s renovation project.
During his scouting career, Pat attended the Boy Scouts of America’s Maine High Adventure, Florida Sea Base High Adventure, and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.
A 2012 graduate of Worcester Technical High School, Patrick studied Culinary Arts and received the Culinary Arts Student of the Year Award for 2012. He also participated in Worcester’s Best Chef, and played baseball for the Tris Speaker League in Worcester. He is a member of the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury where he was an active participant in the Youth Group. Pat attended youth mission trips to Boston, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York.
Interested in the medical field, Pat is a sophomore at the University of Rhode Island where he is majoring in kinesiology and minoring in Leadership Studies and is a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
Pat lives in Worcester with his parents, Dan and Janet Lyons. He is the third Eagle Scout in the Lyons family, following in the footsteps of his father and his brother Connor.
