Fiore’s – A true Shrewsbury institution

_SL41704SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – How many Shrewsbury businesses can truly say that they are still right here where they started 50 years ago? I’ve been trying to think of one or two others, but I’m stumped. Yes it was 60 Years ago this year, back in 1963 when I was learning how to walk, that Tom Fiore Senior saw the writing on the wall, and opened up his full service sales and service dealership on a route 9 that must have looked far different than it was today. His philosophy was simple – work hard, do a great job, and a business where success would be defined not by how much you could charge, but by how you treated your clients, and much you could give back to the community. Now there is a philosophy all business could truly learn a valuable lesson from. It wasn’t long before he had built a thriving organization, servicing the needs of countless Shrewsbury families, and building a reputation for experience, honesty, and fairness.

In 1988 his son Tom Fiore Jr. became the general manager of the business, and in 1993 he purchased the shop from his dad, with the intent of carrying on that great tradition. Thankfully, he was taught very well, and to this day Fiore’s continues to serve the community with that same level of ethical responsibility that was there at the start. Tom has served as a town meeting member, and ultimately was elected to the Board of Selectmen where he served as chairman. He has dutifully sponsored Shrewsbury sports teams for years, continued to advocate for local causes, and been a trusted advisor to many community and business members. It’s that long term service to the community that really makes our town what it is today.

_SL41683I know I’ve been a client of Fiore’s since I first moved to Shrewsbury in 1992, and honestly don’t know what I’d do without those guys. I don’t think many people really understand the value of an honest mechanic until they really experience one first hand, or until they get ripped off by a bad one. I had bought a new car years ago, and of course took it back to the dealership for all the warranty service. My first visit to them after the warranty expired, I needed a minor repair and an oil change, so I decided to wait for it. After all they had a gorgeous waiting room, with a flat panel TV, an espresso machine, and even a wifi so I could do my work. An hour and a half later, my car was done – which would have been great except that I was charged $350 for the oil change, and for 3.5 hours of labor – at $125 an hour – because according to the service manager that’s what “the book said.” Needless to say, that was the last time I went back to that dealership, so I hope someone else is enjoying that very expensive cup of espresso in their waiting room, because it won’t be me.

Fiore’s is such a refreshing change of pace, which is probably why I like it there so much. So many times I have gone in with what I thought would be a sizable repair bill, only to be told that when they got into it, that it turned out it was a simpler fix then they thought, and that it was going to be half the price I had already agreed to. How many people can really recall the last time they paid less than they were quoted?

In any event, next time you need to purchase a reliable car or truck, require anything from  a simple repair, to a complete engine rebuild, why not stop on by and say hello. You’ll find no flat panel tv, and you’ll have to bring your own espresso, but you’ll walk out with a smile on your face, a repair from someone who will stand by their work, and a bill that’s probably half of what it would have been elsewhere. Not too many businesses out there have me as a life-long fan, but this is one of them!

Totally agree. Have used them since I moved here in 2000. Honest as the day is long, I have always been completely satisfied with the quality of the work. Just a fantastic local business.
