Shrewsbury, Massachusetts – Missy (Melisa) Hollenback is running for one of two seats on the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen, for the May 2 contested election.
Missy has lived in Shrewsbury for 20 years, and has seen firsthand how town and school services have declined or in some cases disappeared over the years. Shrewsbury residents are looking to be more engaged with town government and need to be communicated with in diverse ways. Missy believes her strength as an established community organizer and forward thinker is one of the things that would make her valuable as a member of the Board of Selectmen.
The candidate is not afraid to take on those causes, which might not be popular or sexy but are vital to the success of the community. Missy has a particular dedication to protecting the environment for everyone, not just her own children. Clean air, water, and soil and safe food should be a right for everyone, not a privilege.
Missy as the co leader of the initiative to become the first town in Central Massachusetts to create a by law to ban non-biodegradable plastic bags was successfully brought to Shrewsbury Town Meeting
The Shrewsbury Farmer’s Market was founded and managed, by Missy, at the urging of current Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Matt Beaton. She worked with Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and Board of Health, Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources to bring fresh and local farm products to Shrewsbury.
Missy holds a BS in Business Administration from Elmira College, and a MS from UMass-Amherst in Labor Studies. She has worked at a retail manager and in sales for 10 years, office manager and administrative assistant for 10 years, and other positions ranging from Internship Coordinator to union organizer and researcher.
Missy’s family includes her husband of 23 years, Adrian Koren, a software engineer; Aurora, a senior at Shrewsbury High School; Cecilia, a 6th grader at Sherwood Middle School; lovable poodle Snowy, and rescue cats Cody and Batty.
