Lawrence Jay “Larry” McGoldrick was born December 12, 1958 and grew up, fourth generation in Westborough. He graduated from Westborough High School with highest honors and was a member of the National Honor Society. He was an accomplished athlete and lettered in hockey, baseball and football serving as the team Captain of many and further enjoyed golf and sailing for many years thereafter. Larry also served in various leadership roles including Class President and was the recipient of several awards including Boys State.
He received his BA from the University of Vermont majoring in Business Administration and was active in his fraternity, (SAE) Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Larry entered the 68 year old family business, The Green Thumb Greenhouses and Garden Center, and later became the company President. Larry was civic minded and supported his local community through sponsorships of youth sports programs and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Flower Association.
Larry leaves behind his parents, June D and Robert P McGoldrick of Westborough; his sister Linda McGoldrick of Newport, R.I., and his beloved son Ryan Jay McGoldrick of Shrewsbury, the love and pride of his life. He was predeceased in 1992 by his sister, Jill McGoldrick, formerly of Boston. Larry loved animals and leaves behind his golden retriever and faithful companion, Fenway who never left his side.
Larry was struck down abruptly by a rare and brief illness, passing away swiftly but peacefully surrounded by family on April 24. His love of life, quick wit, sense of humor, complete love and loyalty to family and friends exemplified his life. We will miss you Larry and hold you close in our hearts forever.
There will be a private burial by the immediate family. The memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 11th at 2:00 p.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, 3 John Street, Westborough, MA 01581. Reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations toward youth programs may be made in his name to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Westborough.
