SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – As the Spring season has finally arrived and the FIFA world cup starting in Jun, it is time for our soccer loving kids to dust off their cleats and enjoy great New England Spirit and Weather. Shrewsbury Youth Soccer (SYS) has provided a great platform for our kids to become the future soccer stars as the game is picking up in popularity amongst kids in United States. One such groups of kids from Shrewsbury, Northboro, Westboro, and Worcester called the Metrowest Rising Stars showed they are a class team by winning the Indoor Soccer Championship at Forekicks Marlboro in the U12 Boys division this week.

This is the second consecutive championship won by the team this year. About 2 weeks back they won the Teamworks Northboro U12 tournament.

At the Forekicks tournament final, Rising Stars beat Framingham United in penalty kicks after the game was tied 3-3 at the completion of regulation time and extra time. Rayyan Syed from Shrewsbury scored 2 goals in the first 10min for the Rising Stars but Framingham United fought back to tie the game at half time. In the second half Framingham United went ahead by scoring a goal in the first few minutes. Rising Stars stepped up their game and made several attacks on Framingham United but could not convert them into goals. With 3 minutes left, Waseem Mahmoud from Northboro scored the equalizer for Rising Starts and tied the game. The game went into extra time and the score was still 3-3. The Penalty kicks were the last option to resolve this tie. Abdur Rahman from Worcester and Rayyan Syed scored again during penalty kicks to put Rising Stars up. Leith Khan from Shrewsbury, Rising Stars’ goalkeeper stopped two penalty kicks and helped Rising Stars emerge Victorious.

The team showed a lot of character throughout the tournament. Everyone contributed to the success of the team during the league and knockout phase. Rising Stars beat several experienced club teams to emerge victorious in both Teamworks and Forekicks tournaments.

The team was coached by Reyad Mahmoud, a very popular coach amongst the kids in Northboro Soccer. Naseer Mohammed from Westboro was the assistant coach. Our heartiest congratulations to the 2 coaches and the team.
