SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Editors note: One of the hardest things I do in running the Shrewsbury Lantern, is posting notices on the passing of our residents. That’s made much harder when it’s people that I knew so well. Kent was a really cool guy, who I had the pleasure of working with several times over the years. he and his family are all just amazing folks, and I know I extend my deepest sympathy to his wife Vicki, and all of his extended family during what I’m sure must be a very difficult time in their lives….
Mr. Kent B. Hostetler, of Shrewsbury, died at home on Saturday, October 26, 2013. He was 66.
Kent was born October 23, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio a son of the late Rex and and Lela (Murphy) Hostetler. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School and later attended Ohio State University. Kent married Vicki C. Giumentaro in Saint Anne’s Church on May 27, 1972. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and became co-founder of Worcester County Vietnam Veterans.
He worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in the main branch in Worcester for many years, retiring in 2003.
Kent loved playing golf and retirement to Myrtle Beach allowed him to play as often as he could. He also had a passion for antique cars and motorcycles.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, Vicki, he leaves his sister, Janet Groene and her husband, Bill, of Chesterland, Ohio; his in-laws, Carol and Michael Mazzola, Maureen and Richard Londergan, all of Shrewsbury, Sandra Firkins and her husband, Donald, of Kentucky; many nieces and nephews.
Kent’s family offers thanks to Sharyn Londergan of West Dennis who took such wonderful care of her uncle while he was ill.
Kent’s family will gather privately to honor and remember his life in Heald & Chiampa Funeral Direcotors ~ The Sumner House, 5 Church Road, On the Common, Shrewsbury. Burial with military honors is in Mountain View Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
Honor Kent’s memory with a contribution to VNA Care Network Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608.
