Pipe organ demo in Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Ever wondered what all those stops on the organ console mean? In fact, what is a stop anyway? How does the organ work and why are there so many manuals? On Saturday, Feb. 18 from 9 – 10 AM, organist Malcolm Halliday will offer an organ demonstration and workshop at the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury called “Welcome to the Organ” for any interested people in the greater community who’d like to learn how a pipe organ works.  This workshop will be geared toward children grade 6 and older, as well as adults of any age.  This class will be of particular interest to folks who play the piano, but should also be fun for anyone who is fascinated by the organ as a complex machine, or who takes an interest in the science of sound.

Because of the nature of this event, it will be helpful to know exactly who is planning to attend the opening session. Please give the church office a call at 508-845-7286 or email rmhallidayjr@gmail.com to let us know of your interest in attending this event at the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, 19 Church Rd, Shrewsbury, MA 01545
