Plant and Seedling Fundraiser

Shrewsbury, Massachusetts — Plant and Seedling Fundraiser — Today the Worcester County Conservation District (WCCD) announced the February 1st start of its’ Plant and Seedling Fundraiser, enabling homeowners, businesses and institutions to purchase trees, shrubs, perennials and edibles for their yard.

“The plants and seedlings purchased through the WCCD beautify homes and businesses while providing nectar and food for wildlife. Each year our sale focuses on a particular conservation concern; this year we are working to promote the knowledge that We All Need Trees & We All Need Bees. Each tree plays an important role in controlling the effects of climate change; they also serve to reduce the heating and cooling costs to homeowners. The clear cutting of tree stands for neighborhoods and commercial zones, while necessary at times, has significant effects on the habitats of hundreds of species. Every tree that is planted, helps to work against this. The recent reduction in honeybee populations has serious implications for our global food supply. Every effort, no matter how small, individuals can make to enhance the habitats of pollinators, is vital,” said Mackenzie May, Seedling Sale Coordinator at Worcester County Conservation District

Plant and Seedling Fundraiser will enable the WCCD to provide conservation assistance in cooperation with the USDA‐NRCS, to landowners on issues related to water quality, pollution, erosion control, forest management, soil health and farm resource management. As well as funding the educational sessions and workshops hosted by the WCCD throughout the year, Envirothon Grants and Scholarship Program.

Plant and Seedling Fundraiser provides a vast selection of native plants, preordered February 1 through April 1. Pickup of purchases takes place on May 6th at Sholan Farm, Davidian’s Farm, Red Apple Farm, Jordan Dairy Farm, Coopers Hilltop Farm and the Blackstone River & Canal Heritage State Park.
