Shrewsbury baseball kicks off with victory

Mike West ready to head for third base

SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – The Shrewsbury High School Junior Varsity team has really come alive this season, kicking off 2012 with some outstanding play. After a nail biting loss to Nashoba in their first game, the team has really gelled together, putting up a sound defeat of their arch rivals from Westboro High School in game two of the season. Most recently, the team took on the Tantasqua Warriors at their gorgeous field complex out in Sturbridge. The Colonials really brought their A game for this one, with Sam Hayes, Nick Dilliberto and Chris White responsible for more than an handful of doubles to the wall.

In his first appearance on the mound, Devin Brownell held the Warriors scoreless through 5 innings, with the combination of masterful pitching and some clutch double plays by the Colonials infield. Jesse Levine, also in his Shrewsbury High School pitching debut, took the mound in the 6th and 7th innings, and went made short work of the Warriors. Mixing up the heat with a handful of sweeping curve balls kept the hitters off balance, and with the help of some great defensive plays managed to close out the game without giving up a hit.
