Shrewsbury High School Alumni Association Grant Recipients Announced

SHSAlumSeal1SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – The Shrewsbury Alumni Association, founded in 1993, is a non-profit organization whose goal is to bring together all interested alumni and friends of Shrewsbury High School and to promote the best interest of the schools and community by fostering enthusiasm, involvement, and close relationships.

In 1995, the Alumni Association decided to promote the Shrewsbury High School Student (SHS) Grant Program. The qualifying criteria states that all grant funds must be used to promote educational or charitable projects or to foster a sense of community. All SHS student groups, clubs, classes, or organizations, with a minimum of five students, must either be involved or benefit from the project. Grants are awarded from $100 to $400.

This year, the Alumni Association Grant Program celebrated its 18th year of existence and has funded over $63,000 back to Shrewsbury High School student programs where an estimated 260 student groups have benefited. Funds distributed are primarily received from a variety of graduating classes at reunion time and SHS Alum making personal donations. The purpose of the Alumni Grant program is to assist students in achieving their project goals by providing them with seed money to get their project off the ground and running.

This year, Sandra J. Lucas, SHS Alumni Grant Chair, and her Grant Committee selected eight SHS student grant projects to be funded. Many of these projects support a variety of educational and community opportunities ranging from cultural programs, research materials, artist supplies, audio/ visual supplies, state and local competitions, charitable giving, and a variety of other projects.
