Shrewsbury neighbors helping neighbors weather the storm

12071343793799power outage thumb 300x231 Shrewsbury neighbors helping neighbors weather the storm Shrewsbury MassachusettsSHREWSBURY, Massachusetts –  We are already receiving some reports of very scattered power outages in Shrewsbury.   As the storm worsens, I’ve been in touch with some family and friends down in the mid-Atlantic region, and some have been without power for hours.   It appears that the worst of the storm won’t hit Shrewsbury until after dark, and so we all need to prepare for an extended loss of power.

Shrewsbury has not yet announced plans to open the emergency shelter at Oak Middle School, since it’s not yet needed.  In the interim, what I’d like to do is to put together a list of Shrewsbury residents that have both whole house generators, and are willing to take in a few neighbors in an emergency, as well as those that might have an extra generator.   I know I’ve got both a portable and whole house, and we’d be willing to take in 10-20 folks overnight in an emergency.  I can also loan out the other portable if needed.

One of the things that helped residents in western Mass survive the aftermath of the tornadoes last summer was neighbors helping neighbors until the authorities were able to organize.   Having a record ahead of time of who has generators would be a huge help in the event of a major emergency here in Shrewsbury.

Please chime in below in the comments if you have a generator and are willing to help out.
