SHREWSBURY,Massachusetts – My husband and I strongly support an override to prop 2 1/2 in Shrewsbury. My husband and his siblings were raised in this town. We moved here from Lexington 10 years ago to raise our family in a community that shared our values. The majority of people in town do agree that education and public services are worth the investment and that we have fallen behind in properly funding those services.
Costs are rising more than 2.5% a year, so it is logical to expect that until our revenues increase proportionally, town services will continue to be reduced, including the elimination of more teachers. This increase is long overdue and really not optional if we want to maintain the reputation of our town. If we do not support this now, our town will be at risk. Young families that want a top-notch education for their kids, like us, will no longer flock here. This, in turn, means lower property values for everyone.
I urge all Shrewsbury residents to make the responsible choice of voting yes on June 3.
