548137_384918294863165_1122070060_nShrewsbury, Massachusetts – The Summer Multicultural Festival, sponsored by the Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library will be celebrated on Sat, July 27, from 10:30-11:30 AM. It will be an introduction to Middle Eastern Music and Dance. Presented by Edward J Hines, this participatory workshop will be a fun and fascinating introduction to the cultures of the Middle East. It will feature demonstrations of folk & classical instruments (strings, winds & percussion) from both Turkey and the Arab world. Learn about the unique modes and scales of the region (maqamat) and hear comparisons of Eastern and Western musical styles. But the highlight of the workshop is when everyone joins in learning easy Middle Eastern folk dances. Learn something new and have a lot of fun! This is a drop-in program for the whole family to enjoy. Also check out Edward Hines’ website at http://www.hinesmusic.com.

In the past, the library has celebrated Indian, Chinese, Latin American, Chinese and other holidays and traditions during the quarterly multicultural festivals.
