Shrewsbury resident wins innovation competition

IMG_9715SHREWSBURY, Massachsuetts – Worcester State University awarded The First Annual Robert K. O’Brien “NEXT BIG IDEA CONTEST” First Prize to Derek Canton, President and Founder of G1G God is Good. G1G God is Good is a for-profit consumer brand that markets and sells high quality apparel and accessories to convey a positive and encouraging message: God is Good. Approximately two years ago Derek conceived the idea of using G1G God is Good as a way to convey a positive message among friends and it quickly caught on and everyone started signing their text and Facebook messages with G1G. Starting simply with bracelets, the line quickly grew to include Tee-Shirts, hats, sun glasses and other apparel. In an effort to gain exposure and develop his entrepreneurial skills, Derek entered the Next Big Idea Contest with hopes of gaining a great experience and coaching from the instructors and professionals that supported the contest. Derek was humbled to learn that G1G God is Good won First Place which included a $2000 cash award. More information about G1G God is Good available at http://www.god1g.com

Derek Canton is a resident of Shrewsbury Massachusetts. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School, Class of 2011. He is a sophomore at Worcester State University where he is pursuing a degree in Business Administration. In addition to the apparel company, Derek is also a motivational speaker often addressing his audiences on the virtues of hard work and pursuing your dreams. The contest is named for, and financially supported by, WSU Class of 1958 alumnus Robert K. O’Brien. Mr. O’Brien has a long and distinguished career in business and has helped launch 10 companies employing more than 300 people. He believes WSU students have the creative innovation to launch the “Next Big Idea.”
