SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Last week I had the opportunity to check out the opening of a brand new Frozen Yogurt shop called Yowza, and I haven’t been the same since. Located at 269 W. Main St in Northboro, just up the street, the shop was started by Shrewsbury residents Jim Brown and LalaJava co-founder Scott Boyers, and features a true rainbow of delicious delights that are sure to make it a go to place for tons of locals.
Even for someone like me who has never been considered a yogurt eater, it was an absolutely amazing and incredibly flavorful surprise. I can honestly say I’ve never tasted frozen yogurt before, figuring it tasted like, well, like yogurt…but boy was I wrong. Instead, it was just like yummy soft-serve ice cream, better than I’ve ever seen at the Carvel’s of the world, and in so many more flavors. As you walk in you are given an empty cup, and have the opportunity to self serve from a wall full of frozen yogurt dispensers with flavors that rotate all the time. I had the chance to sample almost all of them, from espresso, pumpkin pie, and birthday cake to triple chocolate and my new favorite caramel and salty pretzel, which was absolutely amazing!!
As if the selection of frozen flavors wasn’t enough, you then walk over to the toppings bar, which has the wildest array of different choices you can imagine. Even though I told myself I was just grabbing some quick samples I found myself with a bowl of half caramel-pretzel and half cheesecake which then got a generous topping of crushed oreos, fruit loops and chocolate chips!! It was just amazing.
At the register, you pay based on the weight of your bowl, on a per ounce basis, so for parents you’re not going to be hit with this huge bill for your 7 year old that’s just getting a taste.
The atmosphere is light and fun, with it’s bright colors, the occasional palm tree, and even dual plasma TV’s so you can watch the game while you munch. Next time you’re passing by, why not stop in, say hi, and get your Yo on!
