Shrewsbury Senior Girls over Juniors 28-21, Gorilla-0

SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – It’s an annual gladiatorial contest that represents the least best kept secret in town.  The annual pre-Thanksgiving powder-puff game, which pits the senior girls against the juniors.  Naturally, the game doesn’t officially even exist, as we were cordially reminded by SHS principal Todd Bazydlo in an email totally disowning the event, and expressing what a bad idea it was and that people can get really hurt.  That, of course didn’t keep the fans away, with over 300 people showing up at the Ternberry field for the contest of the year.   For those who think the kids snuck out without their parents knowledge, rest assured that most of the moms and dads were there cheering louder than anyone, and taking pictures, so it was all in good fun.  The Shrewsbury Police also made themselves a ubiquitous presence, but they weren’t there to put a halt to the contest, but rather just as a safety in case things got out of hand.  They almost did a few times, with quite a few after the whistle punching matches going on while players were still on the ground, but fortunately there was a large gorilla there who was a big help in breaking things up and keeping everyone safe.

Congrats to all the players on an outstanding game!
