Sunday Hours going strong at Shrewsbury’s “new” Library

sl6_4117Shrewsbury, Massachusetts – With the re-opening of the renovated and expanded Shrewsbury Public Library at 609 Main Street, the library kicked off the 2017 Sunday Season with a burst of visitors. The first Sunday opening occurred on October 2, with a steady stream of visitors who found their way back to the Main Street site. There was much excitement at returning to the beautiful new building, after having been housed in temporary quarters for almost two years.

Generous donors have already provided enough funds to cover more than half of the season. With donations received to date, the library will be open at least eighteen Sunday afternoons this season, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., from October 2 through late-February 2017. If the entire season is funded, the library will be open on Sundays through May 21 2017. This is great news for the many adults, families, students and others who use the library to catch up on work or homework assignments, connect to the free Wi-Fi, read recent newspapers or magazines, learn about free downloadable eBooks or magazines, visit the preschool play area, spend time in the new Teen Room, or just browse the books, audio books or DVDs. Community groups who use the meeting rooms are also appreciative of access to the facility on Sundays.

Many sponsors have stepped up to ensure that the exciting new facility is open for users on Sundays. Sponsoring two Sundays each were Dean Park Grill and Pizza, the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury and the Olive and Anthony A. Borgatti Jr. Donor Advised Fund of Greater Worcester Community Foundation. Sponsors providing funds for one Sunday each are Matt & Laurie Hogan, Central One Federal Credit Union, Carmela Heedles, in Memory of James A. Heedles, Katherine Canney In Memory of Joseph Canney, David and Kathleen Rocheleau, Mary Ellen Killelea, in Memory of Richard M. Goldrosen, the Shrewsbury Garden Club, in Honor of Earth Day, Cathy Cooper, Jay Somers, in honor of wife Backie Somers Birthday, Jean and Henry Fitzgerald and two anonymous donors.

There are still sponsorship slots available to help maintain the full season through May 2017. Interested parties can contact Library Director Ellen Dolan at (508) 841-8537 or edolan@shrewburyma.gov for further information or to arrange a sponsorship.
