TV Review: Game of Thrones Season 4

game of thrones season 4 dragon emilia clarke 533x300 TV Review: Game of Thrones Season 4 Shrewsbury MassachusettsShrewsbury, Massachusetts- HBO has been known for presenting the most unique television for over the 20 years. From Oz, to The Sopranos, to The Wire, they have always pushed the limits of the medium. They were trailblazers, but even today they are still challenging themselves with epic fantasy drama and crime anthologies and they are more popular than ever. Now Game of Thrones, now the network’s biggest hit, has returned for a fourth season.

The War of the Kings is beginning to come to a close after the events of season 3 and in King’s Landing, the Lannister Clan has reunited and are picking up the pieces. The hunt is still on for the surviving members of the Stark family who are scattered throughout the land. In the North Jon Snow returns to Castle Black to prepare the Knight’s Watch for an impending Wildling attack. Meanwhile across the sea Daenerys Targaryen continues her march to King’s Landing, building an army as she goes. Things are heating up in the land of Westeros.

The first two seasons alone would be enough to mark Game of Thrones as a remarkable achievement, but creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have set out to surpass themselves with this pairing of seasons, both tackling the third novel in George RR Martin’s series. Each season has built itself above the previous one and this one is shaping up to be the same.

The cast is massive and they all bring their chops to the table. The best of the bunch though are mostly among the supporting cast. Charles Dance is menacing as Tywin Lannister, Hand of the King and head of the Lannister family. Maisie Williams and Rory McCann are excellent as the unlikely companions Arya Stark and The Hound. Nikolaj Coster Waldau is adding some layers to Jaime Lannister. Of course, the best of the main cast remains Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister. Dinklage plays Tyrion with such charm that his story always leaves you on the edge of your seat.

The ambition of this show is unbelievable and it never ceases to amaze audiences around the world despite the story being known by quite a few for a long time. The show is a cinematic wonder that is given room to breathe on television. The show is nothing short of epic and Benioff and Weiss have brought a story that they have loved for years to the popular audience.

Game of Thrones seasons tend to start slowly and then build off into a series of plot turns and elaborate sequences. This season has already hit the ground running and shows no signs of slowing down. Something is big is coming just around the corner and it could not come sooner. Game of Thrones is surpassing itself and becoming better and better television with each passing episode.
