The Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, asks Parisians not to buy from Amazon. According to her, buying from online retailers will mean the death of booksellers.
“I’m really telling the Parisians: don’t buy from Amazon,” Anne Hidalgo told the press today. “Amazon is the death of our bookstores and our neighborhood life. Buy from your bookstore, ”she added. The mayor notes that there is the Click & Collect system that allows you to shop online and collect your order at a store.
Anne Hidalgo and the writer Sylvain Tesson supported an initiative by booksellers with the title “Rekindle the fire of our bookstores”. This requires the reopening of booksellers who are forced to remain closed due to restrictions on the sale of “non-essential” goods. For the mayor, “Paris is a city in which the book naturally has its place as an essential commodity”.
“The Parisians (…) really see their bookstore as a local, indispensable business. I am here to support this idea and of course I urge the reopening of the bookstores as soon as possible, ”added the Mayor of Paris.
