Google Pay: India opens antitrust investigation against Google

Things are not getting any better for Google in India. The Indian regulator has just officially announced the initiation of an antitrust investigation into how Google is promoting its Google Pay service on the Google Play Store. This research is based on information from an as yet unknown source (a local competitor of Google Pay?).

In particular, the antitrust authorities suspect that Google places Google Pay at the top of the search results for its business. Google services would also be favorably positioned in the various subcategories and rankings of the Google Play Store, e.g. B. Editor’s Choice Apps, User Choice Apps and Top Free Apps.

Last but not least, the same informant reportedly notified the regulator of anti-competitive abuses in in-app payments and found in passing that Apple is in Europe under a similar investigation, this time regarding the app. Business.
