OnePlus announces that OnePlus Nord N10 and N100 are only eligible for a major update of Android. In this case it will be Android 11. So users stay on Android 11 at best, and that’s disappointing.
In a statement to Android Central about OnePlus Nord N10 and N100, the manufacturer states the following:
The Nord N10 5G and N100 will receive a comprehensive Android update and a total of two years of security updates. The plan for these two devices is in line with industry standards for lower-priced smartphones. As always, we will continue to listen to feedback from our users and look for ways to improve the software experience for all OnePlus devices.
There is one particular disappointment with this announcement. The OnePlus Nord N10 and N100 were announced at the end of October and run on Android 10. However, Android 11 was already available in the final version at that time. So it would at least have been nice to have an Android 11 base and an upgrade to Android 12 in 2021. But it won’t be.
Typically, phone manufacturers offer updates to major versions of Android for two years. It’s three years for security. However, this is sometimes less the case with inexpensive smartphones. The OnePlus Nord N10 and N100 start at 199 euros and OnePlus believes they don’t deserve good software monitoring.
