Twitter is preparing to transfer the presidential @POTUS account to gain access to Joe Biden’s teams instead of Donald Trump’s. This also affects other reports, including the White House. The broadcast will take place on January 21, 2021, the day Joe Biden will become the new President of the United States.
The social network “is actively preparing for the transition from institutional Twitter accounts of the White House on January 20, 2021,” a spokesman told Politico. The operation is being carried out in collaboration with the American National Archives. This was already the case in January 2017 with the election of Donald Trump, Twitter specifies.
All tweets posted on @POTUS, @FLOTUS, @VP and other official profiles will be archived. The Twitter accounts will then be reset and handed over to the new White House administration on the same day.
During the Obama era, @POTUS ‘Twitter account was quite active. It was different in the Trump era. In fact, Donald Trump mainly used his personal account (@realDonaldTrump) to post messages. The @POTUS account was primarily an opportunity to retweet the tweets from the personal account.
For information, the @ realDonaldTrump account has 88.9 million subscribers. That’s 19.3 million for @JoeBiden. @POTUS has 32.8 million subscribers.
